Accurate reconstructions of mid-facial defects require precise pre-operative planning and reliable intra-operative image guidance for realization.
Brainlab has applied more than 20 years of experience in navigation technology to the next generation of navigation and planning software for craniomaxillofacial surgery. iPlan® CMF bridges the gap between pre-operative planning and intra-operative navigation. Using the same interface, surgeons are now able to transition smoothly from CMF planning to the surgical procedure without switching software applications, thus avoiding potential software incompatibilities and lost data.
- Realization of pre-operative plans
- Image guidance without loss of data
- Intra-operative imaging allows immediate result control

Realization of pre-operative plan
IGS allows for the intra-operative realization of pre-operative virtual planning. All relevant pre-planned data is accessible and can be utilized during the surgery. Depending on the indication, the appropriate registration method can be chosen. With navigation the final positions of implants or repositioned bone fragments can be checked. This result control can be supported by the acquisition of intra-operative images and fusion with pre-operative planned data.
- Navigation of all pre-planned data without loss of information
- Intra-operative imaging can reduce complications and post-op CT-scans

Intra-operative navigation | One major challenge in CMF is the ability to display the position during navigation of fragments or implants in relation to the initial DICOM data and preoperative plan. The virtual anatomy update allows the actual position and surface of the relevant object to be 'painted' manually into the dataset, using a calibrated instrument. By displaying the actual position in the Navigation Software, necessary adjustments can be made during the CMF surgery.
- Better documentation
- Improved quality of surgery
- Virtually displays changed position of structures
- Intra-operative virtual position and result control without additional acquisition of DICOM data

Intra-operative imaging for CMF procedures |
Intra-operative imaging can prevent complications and revision surgeries through instant result control in the operating theatre. The acquired intra-operative data is fused automatically to the preoperative plan. The comparison between pre-planned and actual result can be done in the OR with our navigation software.
- Easy acquisition and fusion of intra-operative data with navigation software
- Better result control during surgery with intra-operative comparison of pre-operative plans and up-to-date fused DICOM images
