Adaptive Radiotherapy

Since changes in tumor size during the course of treatments can have dosemitric impact, advanced radiotherapy protocols that utilize IMRT and IGRT increase the need for periodic plan adaptation.

iPlan® RT Adaptive automatically facilitates efficient, intuitive plan updates based on periodic CT scans prompted by physiological or anatomical changes of the patient, making adaptive radiotherapy both clinically and financially feasible.

  • Advanced image fusion of initial CT and volumetric data generated during course of treatment from Cone Beam CT (CBCT)
  • Automatic organ at risk (OAR) definition with iPlan® RT Atlas Segmentation
  • Fast PTV adaptation in 3D with iPlan RT Smart Shaper® object optimization
  • Automated iPlan® RT Dose template plan update or DICOM RT export

Integrates new Clinical Information

Rigid vs. Elastic CBCT Mutual Information
Automatic Fusion to Treatment Planning CT

Adaptive Radiotherapy–ART workflow support and image fusion registration for CBCT (Cone-Beam CT) data sets.

  • Automatic contouring is performed on treatment planning CT and initial treatment plan is imported
  • Periodic CBCT image is fused to the treatment planning CT  in order to register the new IGRT information
  • Correlates the acquired CBCT to the 3D space of the initial CT to identify potential treatment response

Elastic Fusion and Volumetric Overview

Differential Analysis of Delivered Dos on elastically fused CBCT
With more knowledge available to identify and assess patient response to treatment, multiple views and analysis of automatic elastic fusion results give increased clinical confidence and detail.

  • Automatic contour transfer from the treatment planning CT onto the CBCT or automatic segmentation on CBCT via elastic image fusion
  • Volumetric changes displayed in multiple views offer both visual and graphical support

Adapts Plan to Current Clinical Situation

Combined views of the current clinical situation improve the potential to adapt to changing the patient’s response to therapy.

  • Volume change analysis, dose coverage analysis for treatment targets and cumulative dose analysis for OARs provides convenient clinical overview
  • Dose overlay onto new and original structures enable clinical decisions regarding continuation of treatment with existing plan, or new treatment planning CT
  • Complete re-plan due to anatomical changes or amount of delivered dose to OARs for enhanced clinical outcome
