The 84th American Association of Neurological Surgeons (ANNS) Annual Scientific Meeting is the world’s premier neurosurgical event, attended by more than 3,000 neurosurgeons and other healthcare professionals from across the globe. The theme for 2016 is, ‘Neurosurgery Leading the Way’, exploring the concept of neurosurgeons as leaders not only in the operating room, but also in the classroom, the lab, the battlefield and the arena.


A New Dimension of Image Review at AANS

The new DICOM Viewer 3D Stereo* offers a fresh way to visualize images and treatment plans. With the possibility of adaptable system setup in the O.R. or office, stereoscopic 3D views provide deeper anatomical insights on-the-fly. Be sure to stop by the Brainlab booth and put on a pair of 3D glasses to experience this new dimension of image and plan review.

Neurosurgical Planning—It’s Elemental

New at this year’s AANS is Elements Fibertracking*, a software module that allows anatomical images to be enriched with detailed information about white matter structures. With distortion correction, brain projection view, dynamic live tracking, and seamless transfer of detailed fiber tracts to Brainlab Cranial Navigation software, Elements Fibertracking supports neurosurgical decision-making. For cranial planning, Brainlab will be showcasing Elements applications including Smartbrush Tumor and Automatic Segmentation with Object Manipulation. For neuro-oncological decision-making, demo TRAMs*, a unique methodology developed at Sheba Medical Center with technology provided by Brainlab, which differentiates tumor progression from treatment effects in most cranial tumor cases.

Neurosurgery Meets Radiosurgery

The Adaptive Hybrid Surgery Analysis Element from Brainlab helps neurosurgeons to establish the optimal crossing point between surgery and radiosurgery for multi-modality treatment of benign skull base tumors.

On the radiotherapy side, Brainlab will be showing ExacTrac Patient Positioning and Monitoring System in conjunction with Elements Spine SRS. The in-room X-Ray based system ensures submillimetric precision during radiotherapy and radiosurgery treatments, regardless of couch angle or gantry position. When used during spine stereotactic radiosurgery treatments (SRS), ExacTrac helps to prevent excessive dose to the spinal cord by instantly verifying patient position.
