Senior Customer Visit Manager
With over 300 visitors to Brainlab headquarters each year, welcoming all these guests requires a high degree of organization and a great personality! Petra, our Senior Customer Visit Manager, has all that and much more. Read the full story of her 17 year career at Brainlab below.
When and for what position did you first apply to Brainlab?I actually didn’t apply at all! I visited Brainlab by chance in the spring of 2001 during the first “open house” when the headquarters was still located in Heimstetten, Germany. Our former HR manager started talking to me and asked me about my background. I told her that I was a mother and wasn’t really interested in taking on a new position but she pushed me. I guess she saw something in me that she thought would be a good fit at Brainlab. The next day, she called me and asked me to come in for a chat. I didn’t even realize that it was a job interview; I got the job without even sending in an application!
What is your professional background?
I have a professional certificate in hotel business and worked for many years in that industry for different entrepreneurs. I was later head-hunted by a Swedish petrochemical company based in Stenungsund where I was responsible for business administration and sales. I also previously conducted a successful family business.
Have you changed positions within Brainlab?
Over the course of 17 years, I have occupied many positions at Brainlab. When I was hired, I started as a part-time receptionist. After nearly two years in that position, it was time for the next challenge! I pushed for a new position in the Sales Team for Middle East, North Africa and Pakistan. Since I have an interest in different cultures and countries that are off the conventional tourist’s path, I negotiated with our President and CEO to give me a chance to prove myself in that role. Once I get an idea in my head, I have to see it through!
What does Brainlab do differently than any other company you have worked at?
Brainlab is full of very free-spirited people because those who are open about what they want and are motivated to succeed always do well at Brainlab. If you are able to argue your position in a convincing way, you’ll get a chance to make a difference.
What motivates you to come to work every day?
Definitely the people! I worked for many other companies in my previous career but the multi-cultural teamwork, the non-capricious attitude to each other of very talented colleagues makes me feel proud of being a part of that culture. Our HR recruiting team deserves the credit for seeking out such great colleagues!
What is the most appealing aspect of working within your department specifically?
The freedom to make decisions and the individual approach of project realization is very appealing at Brainlab! You are given a lot of trust and responsibility from supervisors and colleagues to try new things in your work. New ideas and new approaches are always welcome!
