Overview

What’s New at AAOS 2014 in New Orleans

For more than 80 years, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons’ (AAOS) Annual Meeting has been the gathering point for innovative thinkers and technological advancement in the field of orthopedics.

The goal of this year’s technical exhibits, with over 550 companies on display, is to provide a higher level of patient care as well as more effective practice management.

This year, Brainlab celebrates its 25th anniversary and over a decade of attending AAOS.

Meet Brainlab Digital Orthopedic Technology

In line with the AAOS Annual Meeting goal of creating better care and increased efficiency, Brainlab is proud to introduce our full portfolio of software-guided orthopedic solutions—from preoperative planning to patient specific navigation software and postoperative reporting to management of patient images. Each of our products work to accelerate and improve daily orthopedic routines and surgical outcome, whether used individually or together.

This year Brainlab will also showcase our state-of-the-art knee application—Knee 3.0—a complete re-envisioning of software-guided surgery for total knee replacement. A continuously updated measured Balance Graph charts the range of motion of the entire knee joint prior to performing any cuts and based on the actual geometry of the selected implant model. This allows for real-time assessment of the knee as a complete kinematic construct; including mid flexion evaluation. With even more automation and less system interaction, Knee 3.0 is enhanced by Dynamic Adaptation, a feature that enables the software to adjust, in real-time, to the surgical environment, thereby decreasing surgical time and providing the flexibility to manage unforeseen circumstances on-the-fly.

Our latest hip application—Hip 6.0—provides all the advantages of traditional navigation, but without the complexity of patient repositioning in lateral position and addresses the complex issues of the direct anterior approach.

TraumaCad® Digital Orthopedic Templating, which has already set a standard for automation and ease-of-use, is now available on the iPad and has been combined with Quentry, a free cloud-based global network designed to enhance the safe transfer of digital images among medical professionals.

Our platforms Kick™ Purely Navigation and Dash® Digital Cutting Block Alignment with an iPod will be at the booth for hands-on demonstrations.

Be sure to visit our partner, DePuy Synthes, to check out Airo™ Portable Intraoperative CT, the newest intraoperative imaging system designed for surgeons. Alongside Airo is the navigation platform Curve™ Information Guided Surgery to demonstrate the ease with which our systems work together in the O.R.
