As part of an international collaboration, the Brainlab Kick® navigation platform was used in neurosurgical procedures at the Bugando Medical Center (BMC) in Mwanza, Tanzania.

The Bugando Medical Center is the only neurosurgical facility serving approximately 20 million people in the region. Many patients seek treatment there at a late stage often with unusually large brain tumors due to delayed diagnosis and limited access to specialized therapies. The partnership focuses on sustainable knowledge exchange: operating together, learning from each other and strengthening local neurosurgical expertise. Kick® supported the teams with precise navigation under challenging conditions.

This project is very close to the core values of Brainlab as it is part of the mission to help make modern neurosurgery accessible worldwide. Special thanks go to our partner SNT_Brainlab (South Africa) for their crucial support on site.

Prof. Dr. Ehab Shiban: “The trip confirmed that highly specialized medicine can be performed safely and effectively even under difficult conditions. Our long-term goal is to train our colleagues on site so that they can operate on complex brain tumors independently and safely.”
