The Bavarian Oncology Radiology Network (BORN) Project, an initiative from the Bavarian Center for Cancer Research (BZKF), was launched on August 1st by Markus Blume, the Bavarian Minister of State for Science and the Arts, and Klaus Holetschek, the Bavarian Minister of State for Health and Care.

The project was initiated with the overarching goal of improving and streamlining cancer treatment on an interdisciplinary level in Bavarian hospitals. Following the completion of the project test phase in all six university hospitals in Bavaria, the standardized and structured recording of patient imaging data can be transferred to other hospitals and medical practices in the region.

Klaus Holetschek commented: “Overall, we need to make healthcare data more usable. By doing so, we can both improve treatment options for patients as well as streamline research and development efforts and the advancement of future policies. Data protection and data use must always be considered in unison.”

As part of the project, Brainlab and Mint Medical will work closely with the six Bavarian university hospitals as well as the BZKF. Together, all partners will work to develop and establish uniform, structured and standardized reporting of findings in oncological imaging at local hospitals. Mint Medical, a Brainlab company, will provide the infrastructure for the project.
