Becoming an Apprentice at Brainlab
1. Application
Apply for your desired apprenticeship with your completed documents on our homepage. We’ll need a cover letter, your CV and your most recent grades.
2. Video interview
The next step is a video interview, during which you’ll chat with your future trainer and an HR colleague. We want to learn more about you and you can ask questions. We’ll get back to you within two weeks to discuss next steps.
3. Applicant Day
After a successful video interview, you will be invited to an Applicant Day at our company headquarters together with other applicants. Your future trainer will give you various subject-related tasks as well as group exercises.

What do you like most about your apprenticeship at Brainlab?
What I like most about my apprenticeship is that I’m part of the team and can always talk to my superiors at eye level. I also get the freedom I need to pursue my interests.
Why did you decide to do your apprenticeship at Brainlab?
I wanted to join Brainlab because the company has a large, in-house IT department. In addition, the company helps patients all over the world with its technology and I wanted to be a part of it.
Do you think that an apprenticeship at Brainlab gives you good insight into your future profession?
Yes, I can get a good picture of my profession. I am continuously working in the company’s IT environment. I also get expert support for tricky tasks. My training focuses on the development and administration of a company network. My colleagues share their expertise with me, so I get a lot of insights into and explanations about certain parts of the department.

Do you think that an apprenticeship at Brainlab gives you good insight into the profession?
Yes, because each trainee rotates through many departments in order to gain comprehensive insight into the various fields of activity. After the apprenticeship, you can assess very well which department or career orientation suits you.
What benefits are you offered as an apprentice at Brainlab?
My highlights are the Brainlab Gym and the restaurant, as they offer vegan dishes every day. At the gym, I especially like the small group training, where we do different exercises guided by the trainers. What I think is really good is that you get very professional support from the gym trainers, like after an injury. In addition, there’s also a 13th month salary for trainees.
What are your hopes for your professional future?
I would love to go abroad or work remotely from abroad.

You get a lot of insights into different departments and projects and can gain a wide variety of experience. One also contributes to bringing effective and safe treatment methods to the market and making a positive difference in patients’ lives.
What are your hopes for your professional future?
I would like to be able to stay in the medical industry to bring about new possibilities for patient treatments. That’s why it would be great if I were taken on at Brainlab after my training. For my future, I hope for flexible working hours and a good work-life balance.
What benefits are you offered as an apprentice at Brainlab?
I like the apprentice excursions and after-work events – in general, we often celebrate our successes at Brainlab and the various parties are a great opportunity to get to know other colleagues. In addition, the working hours are flexible and I get support for both the intermediate and final exams.

Why did you decide to do your apprenticeship at Brainlab?
I have always been interested in software development and have worked on small projects at home. When I finished school, I really had to think about whether I wanted to study or do an apprenticeship. I decided to do my apprenticeship at Brainlab because practical experience is important to me. Here, I can also implement my own ideas in projects.
What do you hope for your professional future?
I would like to be taken on after my apprenticeship and be able to continue working in development. I like the work here: We strive to improve the treatment of patients worldwide – this means the work really has an impact.
What do you like most about the apprenticeship at Brainlab?
I have the opportunity to work on many great software projects and contribute my own ideas. I also like the restaurant and the gym and really enjoy exchanging ideas with colleagues from other departments, for example at afterwork events or the summer party.
FAQ
Is there a deadline for applications?
No, if you’ve found a vacancy on our website, the application phase is still ongoing. Usually, vacancies are listed in October/November of the year before the apprenticeship begins and are taken down as soon as all positions are filled.

Can I shorten my apprenticeship?
In principle, you can shorten your training at Brainlab by half a year. The prerequisite for this is your previous school education, any previous vocational training, or your age (over 21 years at the start of training). A shortening by both contracting parties can either be determined at the time of conclusion of the contract or applied retrospectively.
Who will supervise my apprenticeship?
You will be supervised by our HR Apprenticeship Consultant and qualified specialist instructors, who always have an open ear for your questions and any challenges you may encounter. During your assignments in each department, trained instructors will support and guide you through the learning process.
What is the difference between apprenticing as an IT specialist for application development and system integration?
Although the Apprentices decide on one of their focal points at the beginning of their training, they have common basic subjects in vocational school in the first few years of training. While the training to become an IT specialist for application development mainly deals with concepts and the development of software, IT specialists for system integration are responsible for installing and linking communication systems, for example telephone systems, servers, PCs, etc.
What are my chances of being hired after completing my apprenticeship?
Your chances are good! Our goal is to take on all apprentices, with selection always based on suitability, performance and compatibility.
What application documents are required?
We require a cover letter, curriculum vitae and your latest certificates.
How do I know if my application has been received?
Each application will receive a confirmation of receipt. We will then get back to you, usually within 14 days, with further instructions.
How many days of vacation do I have as an Apprentice?
Like all employees at Brainlab, you’ll have 30 days of vacation per year.
How many Apprenticeship positions are offered each year?
Generally, we offer 10 apprenticeships per year, across 5 different professions. So you are in a team with other trainees right from the start.
