Research shows that medical video games can provide young physicians with the knowledge they need for everyday clinical practice. What has yet to be proven is whether these games can benefit experienced physicians who have been practicing for years.
A recent study conducted by Level Ex Video Games for Doctors | Level Ex, a Brainlab company that specializes in the creation of medical video games, aimed to answer this question. The study was conducted in conjunction with the independent research firm CE Outcomes, LLC.
Physicians played five Top Derm game modules dealing with common and rare skin diseases. Participating doctors gave very positive feedback on the games and felt that “The video game is easy to use, contains many great teaching exercises and stimulates thinking. It’s entertaining, clinically relevant and easy to play in spurts.”
The study showed that even experienced physicians benefited from this type of education and were able to make better-informed decisions in clinical practice.
