STOCKHOLM and MUNICH, June 26, 2017 – At the 17th Quadrennial Meeting of the World Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery (WSSFN, June 26-29), Elekta (EKTA-B.ST) and Brainlab announced an agreement according to which Brainlab will be the authorized distributor of Elekta’s stereotactic solutions for neurosurgery in selected markets.

An international faculty of 35 speakers covered clinical and technological advancements, focusing on stereotactic radiosurgery of secondary metastasis in the brain and spine, intra-cranial primary tumors, arteriovenous malformations and functional disorders.

Glioblastoma patients receive a novel, minimally invasive treatment directly into brain tumor

MUNICH, Germany, June 6, 2017 — Brainlab and Medicenna Therapeutics Corp (the “Company” or “Medicenna”; TSXV “MDNA”) jointly announced today that recurrent Glioblastoma (rGB) patients in a Phase 2b clinical trial of MDNA55, a targeted immunotherapy agent, have been treated at three clinical centers in the United States using innovative drug delivery technology from Brainlab. The investigators used convection enhanced delivery (CED) to inject MDNA55, together with an imaging agent, directly into the tumor. When combined with real-time image guided MRI, CED allows delivery of MDNA55 at high concentrations into the tumor tissue while avoiding exposure to the rest of the body. The current Phase 2b clinical trial plans to enroll 43 adult patients with rGB at leading brain cancer centers in the United States.

TRAMs für die neuro-onkologische Entscheidungsfindung

NEUE, HOCHAUFLÖSENDE MRT-BASIERTE METHODE

Elements TRAMs (Treatment Response Assessment Maps) unterstützt Ärzte bei der Unterscheidung von Tumorprogression und Behandlungsfolgen, wie z. B. Strahlennekrose. Die neue MRT-basierte Methode verwendet zwei Aufnahmen von T1-gewichteten Standard-MRTs – ein MRT 5 Minuten und ein weiteres 60 bis 105 Minuten nach Verabreichung der Kontrastmittel-Standarddosis. Die erste Serie wird automatisch von der zweiten subtrahiert, um den Unterschied zwischen Kontrastmittelanreicherung und -auswaschung anzuzeigen, was in den TRAMs resultiert. Dadurch wird Elements TRAMs zu einem wichtigen Tool für Neurochirurgen, Radioonkologen und Tumorboards, um zwischen Tumorprogression und den Behandlungsfolgen zu unterscheiden.
