“L’Huomo” – Baroque opera with princely irony
On May 5th and 6th, 2023, the opera “L’Huomo” was performed for the first time in over 200 years.
The libretto on which the opera is based was written by the Bayreuth Margravine Wilhelmine of Prussia and is centered around humans and human thought.
The performance combined historical and modern elements: Conductor Dorothee Oberlinger and Ensemble 1700 staged the opera in 18th-century style, while the sets featured a video installation by Christoph Brech, Jörg-Christian Tonn with support from Brainlab, in which astronomy and anatomy meet in the human brain. In doing so, they not only picked up elements of Zoroastrianism in “L’Huomo”, but also created a bridge between baroque opera and modern technology.
A recording of the opera can be found on BR Klassik website, the website and concert are both in german
